What is today the State of Israel was founded in 1948, in a process mediated by the United Nations during the division of Palestine. In the context of the first Palestinian uprising, Hamas emerged in the late 1980s with the commitment to armed resistance against the Israeli occupation, aiming to replace it with a Palestinian State. After decade-long tensions, the October 2023 attacks triggered changes in the regional geopolitical conjuncture, causing a paradigm shift in political discourse. While previous academic contributions focus on the colonial approach to an intrastate conflict and propose solutions to define it, this article interprets the impact of colonialism in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a post-colonial lens, deconstructing discourses of significant international actors after September 2023 with five categories as theoretical guides – “Settler Colonialism”, “Prejudice”, “Segregation”, “Restrictions to Freedom”, and “Violence”. The analysis points to the conclusion that, in the perspective of most international actors, Palestine is the oppressed party in the conflict.
