Abstract

In this article we propose to analyze the foreign policy of Gran Colombia from a realist perspective. Insofar as we seek to relate Grand Colombian policy to the causes of its disintegration, we will focus on the typical instruments used, Diplomacy and War. The description of the power potential of the new Republic and the impact of the actions and decisions adopted within and outside this regional space will serve to validate the hypothesis that Gran Colombia's foreign policy played a role in catalyzing its own disintegration.

NANCY ELENA FERREIRA GOMES

Doutora em Relações Internacionais (FCSH - Universidade Nova de Lisboa). Mestre em Relações Internacionais (ISCSP - Universidade de Lisboa). Licenciada em Estudos Internacionais (FACES - Universidade Central da Venezuela). É Professora Associada da Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (Portugal), onde lecciona desde 1995. Foi Coordenadora científica da Licenciatura em Relações Internacionais na UAL (2020–2023). É Coordenadora do Curso Avançado de Estudos sobre a América Latina (UAL – IDN – OEI), Coordenadora da Cátedra de Estudos Ibero-Americanos (OEI – UAL), e Investigadora do CEI (ISCTE-IUL) e do OBSERVARE (UAL). É Diretora da Delegação da Fundação Universitária Ibero Americana (FUNIBER) em Portugal, desde 2022. Exerceu funções de Consultoria no Serviço de Educação e Bolsas da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (entre 2001 e 2005).
