Abstract

It aims to reflect on the relationship between the symbolic and social, cultural and political changes, placing homo symbolicus as a figurehead in the understanding of the dynamics of power and identity today. The concept of animal symbolicum is explored as an approach to understand the human being in contemporary society. By addressing the notions of symbol as well as language, this text examines how these elements shape identity, politics, and social relations in the contemporary context. Taking as a starting point the theoretical perspectives of authors such as Ernst Cassirer, it seeks to contribute to a better understanding of what are the consequences of the symbolic as a central element in the construction of the subject and in current political dynamics, highlighting the relationship between the symbolic, power and governance.
